Clinicopathologic and Demographic evaluation of Triple- Negative Breast Cancer Patients of Bangladesh: An Institutional Study
Background: Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive breast cancer subtype and accounts for %15-20 of all breast cancer cases. Since the clinical course is characterized by early relapses and poor survivals, it still represents an unmet clinical need. The aim of this study was to describe the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer at a tertiary cancer care center in Bangladesh
Materials and Methods : This descriptive study included 54 female patients diagnosed with TNBC at Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital. Data were obtained from medical records of patients attending the OPD between October 2023 and August 2024. All cases had histopathologically confirmed diagnoses with receptor status determined by immunohistochemistry.
Results: All participants were female, with the highest proportion aged 35–44 years (33%). The majority had a height of 145–154 cm (67.6%) and were overweight based on BMI classification. Various co-morbidities were observed, including diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Patients were diagnosed across all disease stages, with stage III being the most common at presentation. Results were presented using tables and graphical representations.
Conclusion: TNBC patients in this study were predominantly young, premenopausal, overweight, and presented with advanced-stage disease. These findings are consistent with reports from other regions and highlight delayed presentation and limited screening in Bangladesh. We should analyze more of these patients to know more precisely about its biologic nature and offer a better treatment for these patients in the future.
