Confronting Cervical Cancer in Bangladesh: A Call for Urgent Action

Cervical cancer, or carcinoma of the cervix is the second most common cancer among women in Bangladesh after breast cancer.It is one of the preventable & treatable cancers in medical science. There is established preventable system for prevention & there are many reliable established screening system for Cervical cancer which are not present in many cancers. By screening early detection of Cervical cancers are curable also. Developed countries have reduced the number of new cases & death from cervical cancer dramatically. Now Cervical Cancer has become the disease of low & middle income countries. Despite global advancements in screening and vaccination, thousands of Bangladeshi women are diagnosed with this disease each year mostlyin advanced stages when curative treatment is no longer an option. As a nation striving to improve maternal and women’s health, it is time to bring cervical cancer to the forefront of our public health agenda.
